On a Maxima. Sure, it's a 4 door car, but sports car? No way

They've been doing that since the late 1980s or early 1990s.

Like Party-vi said, this is just an old marketing term that meant as little then as now.

Let's dissect this sticker.
4 DSC- Four disc brakes. That seems nice.
Door- It also has four of those. WOW.
Sports- Maybe the owner meant to have that say "Spores." Must have been an honest mistake.
Car- It's a car.

unrelated: sorry for stirring shit :/

They've said that on them since the 80's.

It kind of made sense in the early-mid-90s where the Maxima was about the sportiest sedan you could get outside of BMWs. The V6 5 speeds were really nice cars and handled way better than they should have.

S'alright.

My jimmies got rustled. Doesn't happen often, but when it does...

It was true of the Maxima during the 90s though, it was a pretty quick car.

Sure, but now it's a little sad

I forgot about this commercial. They left out the part where it goes from rear wheel to front wheel drive.

It's an old Nissan marketing thing apparently, and it's an OEM sticker.

and I for one like it! And I don't even like nissans!

The word 'sport' is the red-headed stepchild of automotive marketing departments the world over.

Because a front wheel drive sedan with a solid tube rear axle is a sports car.
4-door Supra anyone?

could have used a 4DC sticker instead, save some cost / weight

There I fixed it

Yeah it was. Back in those days, it was just about the only 4 door with any level of performance. It handled well and was not slow...
Wife & I put approximately 150k on a 93 SE.

Yeah, that's a bit important, dontcha think...

Because, well, marketing.
The early Maximas they stuck that on were pretty great handling for their time and price, especially compared with their contemporaries. And you could get them with manuals! So I hold my nose and give them a pass.
